Biotene for Sensitive Teeth

I first started to get sensitive teeth about 10 years ago, when I suffered from receding gums due to gingivitis. I've gotten hold of the gum issue, but it proceeded enough to cause my teeth to be a little sensitive. Not too bad, but bad enough that ice and cold drinks do bother me.

I received my sample tube of Biotene and used it for 5 days.

In that time I have certainly noticed a change in how sensitive my teeth are to cold.

Biotene is a sensitive toothpaste designed to maximize sensitivity relief and dry mouth protection, help prevent canker sores and prevent cavities with Xylitol. It also tastes great, unlike many other tooth sensitivity products.

Biotene doesn't just mask the problem like many other products. No layers of some chemical on your teeth to simply prevent the cold from getting to your nerves. Biotene actually promotes the healing of gums that are the root cause of sensitivity in the first place.

The Golden Compass

I can't wait to see this movie. The first book was awesome. I'm really looking forward to see how they handled it, and I'm very encouraged by how well Ioreck Byrnison, the armored bear, looks.

Black Hole News

Donald Turk, 48, and two associates were charged in Lake Elsinore, Calif., in September with kidnapping Turk's girlfriend, whom Turk was trying to push out of his life because she annoyed him. His plan, allegedly, was to take her to Mexico, drop her off, and hope that she would not return home. However, she was back several hours later, demanding that Turk pay off the cab driver who had driven her from the border. Arrested with Turk was a 47-year-old pal nicknamed "No Nose" because he has a hole in the middle of his face as the result of a gunshot. Said police Det. Joe Greco, "(This case) is like something out of a Quentin Tarantino movie." [Press-Enterprise (Riverside, Calif.), 9-18-07]

Petty Crime: Police in Mesa, Ariz., reported that a man in a black Chrysler sedan pulled up to a Burger King worker on the street late one evening in September and, at gunpoint, took the uniform he was wearing. [East Valley Tribune, 9-25-07]

Hamilton Beach ® Mixers

I love these mixers.

Stand Mixer

The metal construction of the Eclectrics® Mixer is wonderful and the sturdy build is very secure.

There are a couple of great recipes I use the Hamilton Beach® Mixer for. One of these is very simple and it's a standard, must-know recipe if you're from Florida:

Key Lime Pie!

Graham cracker pie crust:

16 graham crackers, crushed
3 tablespoons sugar
1 cube (1/4 lb) margarine or butter

Crush the graham crackers add the butter and sugar into the mixer and blend until you get a dough ball. Spread the 'dough' into a pie pan and there you have it. Bake in a preheated 350F oven for 10 - 12 minutes until lightly browned. Place on a rack to cool.

Key lime pie filling:

4 large or extra large egg yolks
1 14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk
1/2 cup fresh key lime juice (approximately 12 Key limes)
2 teaspoons grated lime peel, green portion only

Juice of about 10-12 key limes or two large regular limes if you can't find key limes. I add a little more lime juice since I like mine extra tart. The extra doesn't affect the consistency much.

You can also use 3 yolks and 1 whole egg if you like. The pie needs to be baked simply because of the eggs. Baking helps it get firmer, but it's really the chemical reaction between the condensed milk and the lime juice that thickens it. The eggs need to be cooked though. No raw eggs.

To get the lime zest, you can use a zester, which often comes on the back of potato peelers, or just use a serated knife - carefully - to scrape the green part only off of the limes.

Anyway, use theHamilton Beach® Stand Mixer and beat the egg yolks until they are thick and turn to a light yellow, don't over mix. Turn the mixer off and add the sweetened condensed milk. Turn speed to low and mix in half of the lime juice. Once the juice is incorporated add the other half of the juice and the zest, continue to mix until blended (just a few seconds). Pour the mixture into the pie shell and bake at 350F for 12 minutes to set the yolks and kill any salmonella in the eggs.

Remember, real key lime pie is yellow, not green. If you get green pie, that means someone added food coloring. Key lime pie should be tart as well, not sweet. Garnish with a thin lime slice and whipped cream!

Britney Spears - Mother of the Year

I try to shy away from Britney stories. God knows I don't want to give the mental midget any more publicity, but seriously, this woman needs to be put down. Not only has she missed 8 of her last 15 court ordered drug tests, but she's run over the foot of a photographer, run over the foot of a cop, left her kids in the care of the court-ordered supervisor while she went shopping and now, she's run a red light with her kids in the car, almost getting in an accident in the process.

Not only is the woman mentally imbalanced, she's so out of touch that she's continually putting her kids in danger. I have no doubt that one day soon, one of her kids will be killed or seriously injured and everyone's going to wonder how she was able to put htem in danger so often.

Kids Throw Tantrum. Judge Caves.

Apparently two boys, whose parents had divorced, convinced a family court judge that they hate living in France, where their mother had taken them after she won custody. Three judges actually, have determined that the boys, who "asserted their 'Britishness', dislike their new home so much, that they don't have to live there.

Wow.

Stamp your feet and whine enough and apparently that's all that's required to convince a judge in England. I'm amazed and appalled. For whatever reason, the mother won custody of the children and she has the right to relocate them wherever she decides is best. Now all that needs to happen is for the other parent to convince the kids that they can throw a tantrum and get what they want, as the mother says the father has done. A couple of reasons the boys gave were - they can walk to school and do less homework in England...

The Alzheimer's Foundation

The Alzheimer's Foundation is dedicated to not only working towards a cure for Alzheimer's, but also to working on ways to ensure the quality of life for those suffering from the disease. This is especially important during the coming holiday season.

One way for all of us to help is to check out their shop and buy something. You can get something for yourself, or as a gift for someone this holiday. All the proceeds benefit the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, so you can get something for yourself or a friend and help someone else at the same time. Twice the holiday gift!

Alzheimer's is a tragic disease, robbing people of their memories, their selves and often their dignity. It is very important that those who are suffering from this malady get quality care. Not only is this important to those suffering, but to their families as well. Alzheimer's doesn't just affect those with the disease, but also those loved ones who have to deal with the effects.

I have not had to deal with this in my life, but I have had friends who have. It's very sad to see someone whom you've known and loved all your life, forget who you are, lose their own identities or simply become lost in confusion due to the effects of Alzheimer's. I can't imagine what it's like, to be honest, but thinking of my own mother or father in that way makes me very anxious. I would certainly want them to have the best care possible.

So please, check out the shop at The Alzheimer's Foundation of America. Pick something out, either for yourself or a friend or family member. Give yourself a gift this holiday by knowing you've helped someone else, while giving to someone close to you. Who knows, you may be helping them out in the future as well.

Concept Mobile Phones

Some pretty amazing designs for mobile phones.

Concept Phones

I've always liked Nokia best. Hopefully this won't be like concept car designs. I really hate seeing a totally cool design, and then never seeing it in production. Personally, I don't get it - it's a concept design - everyone looks at it and goes "ooh" and "ahhh", everybody loves it, but they never make it.

South Park Does Guitar Hero

Well, it's South Park, so it's kinda gotta be funny right? Kinda messed up when it's both funny and depressing lol.

As a fan of South Park, I love it. As a fan of video games, I'm offended hahaha!

The Mist

Stephen King. The man has written just about every major film ever made! Well, that's an exageration, but he's written a ton of them. Carrie, The Shining, The Dead Zone, The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, Cujo...

The Mist is his latest story put to film. I saw a preview for it yesterday. Looks interesting. (But I gotta say - if it's vampires in that damn mist I'm gonna have to kill somebody)

I think my favorite King movie - it's a tie. The Shining, which was just voted scariest movie (though I thought it was more suspense than scary) and another that most people would not even consider - The Dead Zone. Christopher Walken, great movie. He's so odd that it just adds to the odd vibe in the movie. Love it.

Ah W, What a Lying Pile of Monkey Poo You are

You know what? I'm tired of hearing the same old lies being spun over and over again. By our own CEO, I mean president, no less:

"Let me first talk about how to make sure America is secure from a group of killers, people who hate -- you know what they hate? They hate the idea that somebody can go buy a home. They hate freedom; that's what they hate. They hate the fact that we worship freely. They don't like the thought of Christian, Jew and Muslim living side by side in peace. They don't like that at all. And therefore, they -- since they resent our freedoms, they feel like they should take out their resentment by destroying innocent lives. And this country will do everything we can possibly do to protect America."

Source

The Muslims couldn't give a rat's anus whether we are free or not. They care that we're free to screw with them. They care that we're free to come over there and tell them what to do. They care that we're free to push our own agenda and force regime change down whoever's throat we deem necessary today.

"See, I tell people -- and I believe this -- that out of the evil done to America will come some incredible good. (Applause.) You know, they thought they were attacking a country so weak and so feeble that we might file a lawsuit or two, and that's all we'd do. (Laughter.) That's what they thought. We're showing them the different face of America. We're showing them that we're plenty tough. When it comes to taking somebody trying to take away our freedoms, we're tough, and we're going to remain tough and steadfast. (Applause.)"

That's why we invaded Iraq, mhmm. I want you yung'uns to know that we invaded Iraq because a Jordanian in Afghanistan got some other people who weren't Iraqi to fly planes into our buildings. And that's how we got this here massive deficit so yer mommy and daddy can't afford to buy a house no more.

"I just want you to know that, when we talk about war, we're really talking about peace."

I think that about sums it all up.
